Preserving History Networking Seminar

The Cedar Lake Historical Association invites you to The Museum at Lassen’s Resort for an afternoon at the lake. Join professionals and volunteers from preservation and historical organizations to learn, brainstorm, and network. This year’s event will begin with a signature meal prepared by Lassen’s Resort Chef Erik A. Hinds followed by roundtable sessions. Feel free to invite colleagues from across the Calumet region. Cost is $35 per person.

NEW THIS YEAR: Prep Work
Julie Zasada, Executive Director of the Cedar Lake Historical Association which operates The Museum at Lassen’s Resort & Dewey Line resort history cruises, will facilitate a group conversation about Antifragility. Please read a brief blog post prior to attending this year’s seminar in preparation for the conversation.

Roundtable Facilitators

Candace Nowak (Booking Group Tours):

Candace is the Visitor Experience Manager at South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority in Hammond, IN. She is a proud graduate of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Purdue University Northwest. She has worked for SSCVA for 15 years, beginning as an intern and growing into her current role managing both the Group Housing and Group Tour departments. She loves creating memorable experiences for visitors and groups traveling to our region. As a lifelong resident of Northwest Indiana, she takes pride in showcasing all that our area has to offer to both locals and visitors. She will brainstorm new ways to enhance your group experience offerings. > Explore the SSCVA

Ted Rita (Establishing Advisory Committees):

Ted is the Executive Director of Hesston Steam Museum in LaPorte County, IN. For over 30 years, he has worked to transform the museum from a steam club to a thriving living history museum. His background in corporate marketing is an incredible asset in his work at his own museum, as well as his role consulting for other organizations. In particular, Ted’s insight and creativity has helped The Museum at Lassen’s Resort evolve into an engaging historic attraction. He has partnered with CLHA for the past 5 years operating his steamboat for the Dewey Line resort history cruises on Cedar Lake and reimagining The Story of Cedar Lake exhibit gallery. He will lead a discussion on how advisory committees can expand the capacity of your organization. > Discover Hesston Steam Museum

Jeannette Rooney (Metrics to Define Success):

Jeannette is the Assistant Director of Local History Services at Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis, IN. She has worked in small organizations and understands the challenges and opportunities local historical organizations face. Her department assists local historical societies, museums, libraries, archives, genealogy groups and preservation groups to promote Indiana’s history statewide.  In her role as a grant coach of the Heritage Support Grant program at IHS, made possible by Lilly Endowment, she has helped numerous applicants sharpen their program/project focus and define the measurable outcomes of success. Work with her and your peers to identify the metrics that demonstrate success to donors and advocates. > Learn More about IHS
